Lagos Fashion Week 2026

The must-attend annual event for African fashion, bringing together designers, buyers, and international media in Lagos.

Africa's flagship fashion event, bridging textile tradition with contemporary ready-to-wear.

Founded by Omoyemi Akerele

Lagos Fashion Week was founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, entrepreneur and founder of the creative development agency Style House Files, with the mission of creating a structured professional platform for Nigerian and West African designers, previously underrepresented on the international fashion scene. In just over a decade, the event has become the largest fashion gathering on the African continent, drawing growing international media coverage and enabling several Nigerian designers to forge partnerships with European and American fashion houses and retailers.

A Commercial Platform for African Designers

Beyond the runway shows, Lagos Fashion Week functions as a genuine business incubator: the event organizes matchmaking sessions between designers and international buyers, panels on structuring Africa's textile industry, and a showroom allowing emerging brands to present their collections to potential distributors. This B2B dimension, rare for an African fashion event of this scale, largely explains the longevity and international credibility Lagos Fashion Week has earned, held every year in the fall at iconic venues across Victoria Island, cementing Lagos as the capital of contemporary African fashion alongside other major cultural events like Art X Lagos.

The 2025 Edition: Fifteenth Anniversary and Record Attendance

The 2025 edition, held from October 29 to November 2 under the theme "In Full Bloom," marked Lagos Fashion Week's fifteenth anniversary and became the largest in its history, bringing together more than 60 designers in front of roughly 15,000 attendees. Labels such as Wote Kii, Imad Eduso, Rendoll, Cute Saint, and Pepper Row presented collections blending traditional textiles like aso-oke and adire with contemporary cuts, showcasing the event's ability to bridge West African textile heritage with current design.

Growing International Visibility

Each edition now draws substantial international press coverage, with American and British fashion titles sending teams on the ground to follow the runway shows. This media exposure has helped several Nigerian brands gain visibility with foreign buyers and editors, reinforcing Lagos Fashion Week's role as an export springboard for African fashion well beyond its original local audience.
