Nigerian international passport: fees of ₦100,000 and ₦200,000, documents and delays

Nigerian Immigration Service

A Nigerian passport starts online, not at the counter. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) publishes its fees, the documents it asks for and its target delays. This page repeats them, with their dates.

The essentials (information checked on 4 October 2026)

  • Fees in Nigeria since 1 September 2025: ₦100,000 for 32 pages (5 years), ₦200,000 for 64 pages (10 years). Correction of data: ₦30,000. Bank charges are extra.
  • Fees from the diaspora, unchanged: $150 (32 pages) and $230 (64 pages).
  • Fresh application: 42 days after successful enrolment. Renewal: 21 days after successful enrolment (NIS 2026 service level agreement).
  • Apply online at passport.immigration.gov.ng, then attend your chosen Immigration office for biometric capture.

The documents

For a fresh application, the NIS lists: your NIN slip, a birth certificate from the National Population Commission or a declaration of age from a High Court, your local government (indigene) certificate and an ICAO-compliant passport photograph. For a reissue, add your current passport.

The steps

The NIS describes the online process: access the portal and choose "Apply for Fresh Passport"; verify your NIN (with your date of birth); choose a processing centre and booklet size; upload an ICAO-compliant photo; review your personal details (they come from your NIMC record) and give a valid e-mail address; provide your address and next of kin; upload the supporting documents; submit, pay and book an appointment. Then you must attend the Immigration office you picked for biometric capture.

Fees and delays

The NIS announced on 28 August 2025 the new fees, effective 1 September 2025: ₦100,000 for the 32-page, 5-year passport and ₦200,000 for the 64-page, 10-year passport. The review concerns applications made in Nigeria only: Nigerians abroad still pay $150 and $230. Applications from the diaspora go through the nearest Nigerian embassy, high commission or consulate.

The 2026 service level agreement sets 42 days after successful enrolment for a fresh application or a change of data, and 21 days after successful enrolment for a renewal. These are the NIS's own targets.
