CcHUB is the epicenter of the Yabacon Valley movement that propelled Nigeria's startup ecosystem.
Founding and Mission
CcHUB was founded in 2010 by Bosun Tijani (who later became Nigeria's Federal Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy), with the mission of creating an open space where technologists, social entrepreneurs, government, and investors could collaborate on high-impact solutions. Based on Herbert Macaulay Way, one of Yaba's main thoroughfares, the hub was one of the very first coworking and tech incubation spaces in West Africa, preceding the Nigerian fintech startup boom by several years.
Role in the Yabacon Valley Ecosystem
CcHUB's establishment in Yaba directly contributed to the neighborhood earning the nickname "Yabacon Valley," gradually drawing other startups, coworking spaces, and tech talent within a radius of a few hundred meters. The hub hosted or supported several companies in their early days that have since become benchmarks of the Nigerian tech sector, and continues to offer incubation programs, shared workspaces, and regular events for the local tech community. Its proximity to the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology makes it a natural stop for young computer science and engineering graduates looking to join the city's startup ecosystem.
A Hub That Has Supported More Than 50 Startups
CcHUB has hosted or supported more than 50 Nigerian startups through its incubation program, including BudgIT, Wecyclers, LifeBank, GoMyWay, and Autobox, and claims to have backed more than 95 early-stage ventures in total since its founding. This incubation work, centered as much on social impact as on pure profitability, sets CcHUB apart from many purely commercial accelerators and explains the recognition earned by co-founder Bosun Tijani, who was ranked among Africa's most influential people before his appointment to the Nigerian government.
A Pan-African Expansion Rooted in Yaba
Building on its success in Lagos, CcHUB launched a continental expansion by acquiring iHub, Nairobi's flagship tech hub in Kenya, in 2019, before also opening outposts in Kigali (where its Design Lab was the first space in Africa fully dedicated to product design and technology innovation) and later in Windhoek, Namibia. This expansion turned a local Yaba initiative into a pan-African innovation network, while its historic Herbert Macaulay Way site remains the nerve center of Nigeria's tech ecosystem.
