Ikeja City Mall (ICM)

The busiest shopping, leisure, and Silverbird cinema hub on the mainland.
A Strategic Retail Hub in Alausa
Ikeja City Mall owes part of its success to its location on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Alausa, the administrative district home to the Lagos State Secretariat and numerous corporate and public institution headquarters. This proximity to a large pool of office workers and civil servants makes it a top choice for lunch breaks, after-work shopping, and weekend family outings for mainland residents, without needing to cross the bridges to the island.
Silverbird Cinema and Leisure Offering
The Silverbird cinema complex, one of Nigeria's leading cinema chains, is one of the mall's main draws, screening both Hollywood blockbusters and Nollywood productions in exclusive first-run showings. Combined with a varied dining offering and local and international fashion brands, Ikeja City Mall has established itself as the mainland's leading shopping and leisure hub, playing a role similar to that of The Palms or Landmark Centre for island residents.
The mall also has a large secure parking area and easy access from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, just minutes away by car, making it a convenient stop for transiting travelers looking to do some last-minute shopping or wait in an air-conditioned setting before a flight.
A Development Backed by International Investors
Ikeja City Mall opened on December 14, 2011, following an investment of around $100 million led by the Actis investment fund, which held a 60% majority stake, alongside Paragon Holdings and RMBIA, each holding 20%. The complex spans 27,000 square meters of gross built area, including 23,000 square meters of lettable space, and hosts nearly 100 stores, a format that made it one of the very first international-standard modern malls on the Lagos mainland when it opened.
A Sale Confirming the Site's Appeal
In 2015, the original consortium led by Actis sold Ikeja City Mall to the South African groups Hyprop and Attacq, a deal that confirmed the site's strong real estate valuation and sustained interest from international institutional investors in the Lagos retail market. This succession of owners specializing in African commercial real estate illustrates the status Ikeja City Mall has earned as a benchmark asset for investors seeking exposure to the continent's modern retail sector.
